Wonky's Land of Nonsensical Musings

Month: August 2018

TWTW August 20th through the 26th: Thunder Mist Turns Fall Back Into Summer

The weather had turned very nice and early Autumnish. The temps were in the seventies. One day it rained for a long time. As I went for a walk to enjoy the rain. It wasn’t so much rain as just a mist. As I joyfully strolled about I heard thunder rumble across the sky. I walked among thunder mist. Two days later the temperature climbed into the 90s.

I think Thunder Mist makes a great name for a cola. THUNDER MIST COLA!!!! Quench your thirst with Thunder Mist! It would be a mix of Sprite and Dr. Pepper.

TWTW August 13th through the 19th: I Wake Up Early But It Doesn’t Take

I work with IT/Computer stuff. We need to upgrade a server/software that a lot of people use. This meant we had to do it when few people would need it.  That meant I had to get up at 5 am.  I knew there was a 5 am. I had stayed up late enough to see it a few times.  But that is not a time you should be waking up.
I had hoped that this getting up early thing would become a trend. Not 5 am but maybe 6:30 or so.. But it didn’t take.  A few days later I was back to sleeping in late.

TWTW August 6th through the 12th: Fit Is Go

This isn’t one of my normal late twtw posts where I am just lazy. Since Sunday I have thought through what happened last week trying to come up with something. It must have been really boring. The only thing that happened is I set up the appointment to have “my” car fixed. So I’ll fill you in on the car saga.

I used to be a car guy. I prided myself that my car payment was more than my rent. I grew up(a bit). The last car I bought was a Ford Fiesta. A tiny little thing with great gas mileage. I sold that car in 2014 and then borrowed my mom’s old C-RV for a few years. It wasn’t a great car but it did the job.  A few months ago I upgraded to my Mom’s 2015 Honda Fit. It has a little problem. Somebody had hit it. The passenger side is a little smashed up.  I finally made the appointment to get it fixed now that it has started to rust. It goes in the shop in 2 Thursdays.

TWTW July 30th through August 5th: Blessed Is The Man Beloved By Two Dogs, Chocolate Is Not Mayonnaise, And The Best Movie Ever Filmed

Blessed is the man beloved by two dogs

Over the weekend I visited some furry and not furry friends (Not THAT kind of furry). I have mentioned Bud before. He has been in the family for years and is now my Mom’s dog. He does seem to favor me a bit though.

When I show up he bounces around and wants all the belly rubs. He tends to follow me around. When I go through a doorway, I have to make sure I am to one side because a dog is going to be barreling along beside me.

He knew when I was leaving to head home. He didn’t try to stop me. He lay down in the middle of the floor and looked sad. When I said, “Bye Bud” he just gave me a sad look.

My friend’s dog, Mazie, also loves me. She jumps up and down squealing and whining when I shoe up. Luckily she’s gotten over the piddling in joy.

Chocolate is not mayonnaise

I was out running errands one day. I had done laundry and eaten lunch. As I headed into a store I reached into my back pocket. In it was a big packet of squishy stuff. It felt like one of those mayonnaise packets you get at restaurants but was way bigger.  I had no idea what it could be. I pulled it out and it was a melted chocolate bar. When I had been doing my laundry I walked over to the store and had bought a soda and a candy bar, but they were 2 for 1 so I got an extra one and stuck it in my back pocket. It had been in there for hours melting away. Luckily it didn’t break.

The best movie ever filmed

I fulfilled one of my bucket list items during the week. I finally saw the greatest movie ever filmed on the big screen. It’s a movie I have seen over 40 times on either tv or video. I can recite the entire script by memory. For the 35th anniversary of the films theater release, they had a limited number of shows. I considered going but it would have required driving for a while and so I let the dream die. But the dream did not die. They have been showing some older movies at my local theater. It just so happens that the greatest movie ever made had a few showings.  I went and it was everything I ever imagined. I am of course referring to Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn

That Was The Year: 2017

I found this in my drafts. I wonder how long ago I first typed it up. I have vague memories of doing so. I obviously, never posted it. I don’t know why. It was mostly finished.

The Throw Away Year

When you get my age you probably shouldn’t just throw away an entire year, but I did. What do I mean by a throwaway year? It’s a year in which I didn’t further any of my goals, in fact, I regressed in them. It was a year I lost focus and direction.

I’ve tried to figure out why the year ended up the way it did. I need to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Early in the year, my Uncle died. Over the Thanksgiving break my Grandfather, a man I loved and respected, died.

This is going to sound weird, but time was never right this year. Especially after my Grandpa died. Days didn’t happen they just went away.
I was constantly doing things but nothing was every accomplished. I didn’t get enough sleep and was constantly tired. I seemed to always be busy but nothing was finished. I reminded of the line from Max Payne 3, “Time moves forward, and nothing changes.”  And yet everything changed.

Everything sounds like an excuse.   Everything is an excuse.

My Five Most Popular Posts(Not Music Mondays)

To end all that pointless navel-gazing, I give you my top non-Music Monday posts of the year. In keeping with my general theme for 2017, I didn’t do much on the blog this year. I am actually shocked I kept up with my regular 2 posts a week.
